Air safety meeting in progress

THE importance of air safety is the focus of a meeting currently underway in Honiara.

Facilitators from the Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO) based in Port Vila Vanuatu are currently conducting the course for airline operators and the aviation officials.

Max Foon Airworthiness Safety Inspector is assisting in the safety aviation workshop.

He said the workshop is important for the airlines industry and aviation department to ensure safety is maintained at all times.

Throughout the week, various topics were covered on safety rules and regulations in the airlines and aviation circle.

The Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO) is a regional international organisation set up as a Regional Safety Oversight Organisation using guidelines provided by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

It gains its legal identity from the Pacific Islands Civil Aviation Safety and Security Treaty (PICASST) and is managed by a permanent staff based in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

The PASO Council provides direction to PASO and is made up of delegates from each member State and associated bodies.

PASO work with its member countries to harmonise the aviation rules in the Pacific region and to assist them to meet their international obligations to aviation safety and security as members of the international community

Solomon Islands is a member of PASO.

The office in Port Vila is headed by the general manager who oversees the general operation of the office.

There are three aviation technical inspectors, each an expert in a specialised area. These are: Airworthiness, Flight operations and Aviation Security.


The workshop started last Friday and will continue to Monday next week.
